FAQ

About the Art

1. Is this original art or mass-produced prints?

Each piece is an original composition hand-painted by artist Xuan using traditional Chinese ink and brush techniques. The finished original is then printed on museum-quality archival canvas. These are not stock images, AI-generated art, or reproductions of other artists' work.

2. What is ink wash painting?

Ink wash painting (水墨画, shuǐmòhuà) is a classical East Asian art form using black ink in varying concentrations on absorbent paper. It originated in Tang Dynasty China (618–907 AD) and emphasizes brushwork, empty space, and spontaneous expression. Xuan trained in this tradition from childhood under her father, a renowned painter and appraiser in China.

3. Who is the artist Xuan?

Xuan (pronounced "shwen") is a classically trained Chinese ink painter based in Seattle, Washington. She grew up in Chengdu, China in a family of artists and studied both traditional ink landscape painting and gongbi (fine-brush) technique under her father. She creates each composition by hand using traditional ink and brush.

Product & Quality

1. What material is the canvas?

Premium cotton-polyester blend canvas, 300–350 gsm, with a matte archival finish. Stretcher bars are FSC-certified solid wood, available in Slim (2cm) or Thick (4cm) profiles.

2. How long will the print last? Will it fade?

The prints use pigment-based archival inks rated for 100+ years of fade resistance under normal indoor display conditions. This is the same ink technology used by museums and fine art galleries.

3. What sizes are available?

Four sizes: 40×50 cm (16×20"), 45×60 cm (18×24"), 50×75 cm (20×30"), and 70×100 cm (28×40"). All pieces come stretched on wood frames, ready to hang.

4. Does it come framed?

Each canvas is stretched on a solid wood frame (slim or thick profile) and arrives ready to hang with an included hanging kit. No additional framing is needed, though you can add a float frame for a gallery look.

Choosing & Styling

1. What size art should I choose for my wall?

A common guideline is that wall art should fill 60–75% of the available wall width. For above a sofa, the art should be roughly ⅔ the width of the sofa. The 70×100 cm (28×40") size works as a statement piece for larger walls; the 40×50 cm (16×20") is ideal for accent walls, hallways, and smaller spaces.

2. What interior styles does this art work with?

The monochrome ink palette and minimalist compositions pair naturally with Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, Zen-inspired, Scandinavian, and contemporary minimalist interiors. The black-and-white palette anchors a room without competing with existing colors, and works especially well alongside natural materials like wood, stone, linen, and concrete.

3. Where should I hang ink wash art?

Living rooms (as a focal point above a sofa or fireplace), home offices (for calm focus), bedrooms (for restful atmosphere), entryways (for a striking first impression), and wellness or meditation spaces. Avoid direct sunlight, which can warm the wall and affect longevity over decades.
